PROJECT

The Health Connection project was born from the campaign ‘Maré says NO to coronavirus’ - mobilized by Redes da Maré in 2020, offering residents of Maré and Manguinhos free testing services, telemedicine and safe isolation in the territory. The main objective of the project was to create a health surveillance model that would serve the residents of these two favelas located in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro during the pandemic, especially for people diagnosed with Covid-19.

In partnership with Fiocruz, Dados do Bem, SAS Brasil, the Manguinhos Community Council and União Rio, the project consolidated this service tripod as an innovative technology to combat health emergencies in slums and periphery regions.

At that time, in addition to sharing in-depth knowledge about the territory and acting to mobilize the population, Redes da Maré provided equipment for carrying out the tests, telemarketing and all the work of Health Connection team. There was also strong integration with basic health services (SUS) in the territory and partnerships/connections with research institutes, NGOs, the public and private sectors. Another work front that gained prominence was the communication and community engagement movement through the production of informative content on social networks, bulletins and press releases, contributing to the fight against misinformation and fake news.
