PROJECT

At the end of 2019, Redes da Maré received a donation of robotics material, suitable for participation in relevant tournaments in the field. It was from this moment that the robotics project was born, divided into several initiatives, such as the robotics workshops of the None a Menos project and the partnership with Colégio Professor João Borges de Moraes.All these actions are part of the Maré Technological Innovation Network (RITMA)..

MAIN ACTIVITIES

• Robotics workshop in the None Less

NaM’s robotics project, Lab Robótica Maker, was created in 2022 for children between 7 and 13 years old in Maré and is premised on theMaker Movement,, based on;“Do it yourself”that is, build, repair, manufacture or modify with your own hands what you need through reusable materials.

Children are encouraged to interact, teach and learn in a collaborative way.. This way of building knowledge is called active methodology STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), promoting the development of computational thinking logic.

The robotics workshop takes place at Lona Cultural Municipal Herbert Vianna with two groups: the first serves children aged 7 to 9 years, from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm, and the second serves children from 10 to 13 years of age, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, offering the approach of some programming logic practices.

• Partnership with CE Professor João Borges de Moraes

Together with Colégio Professor João Borges de Moraes, an institutional partner of Redes since its opening, a team of 7 teenagers from the 1st year of high school was formed with the purpose of starting a project of inclusion in the computational area in the territory, thus making it possible, to the expansion of student training and the insertion of these adolescents in the job market,, which values and demands this knowledge..

In this context, the Peritech Maré project (Periferia e Tecnologia da Maré) emerges, with the objective of promoting the protagonism of students in digital technologies, promoting desired skills, such as socio-affective intelligence, cooperation, creativity, autonomy, logical reasoning of robot programming, scientific research and creation of innovative solutions to problems identified in the territory.

The project consists; of face-to-face and remote meetings for the development of scientific research, experiments with the construction and programming of robots, action planning, exchange of experiences within the team and with other interested students, knowledge of the tournaments for registration, in addition to the involvement of the families in the process..

In the first months, there are 4 hours of work per week, in addition to exchanges with other teams with face-to-face and/or virtual visits.. Young people also participate in human and scientific training activities in the field of science and technology with project partners at each tournament. .

PERITECH IN THE PANDEMIC

Faced with the pandemic, face-to-face meetings to prepare for robotics tournaments were severely hampered, as students did not have adequate equipment and internet access for this activity. Soon, Redes da Maré promoted that the students of the 3rd year of high school of Colégio Professor João Borges de Moraes, Nova Holanda, participate in the project 'Nas Ondas da Maré', with computer classes, concession of notebooks, a scholarship that collaborates for internet access and the acquisition of electronic equipment so that these young people have the opportunity to live these experiences.

Testimony

““Being part of the Peritech Maré team in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic was not easy. Many times I couldn't participate due to lack of Internet, I was discouraged, and I also had to take care of my mother and sister who caught covid-19 at the same time. But, even so, we managed to deliver the work in the Regional stage, we moved on to the National stage, and we still won 1st place in Scientific Merit at the National. For me all of this was very gratifying. Participating in the team, we won a category and I was still praised by the team and the judges! I’m already excited for next year!”;

Mylena Nascimento, 16 years old, student at CE Professor João Borges

““With Peritech I learned to carry out scientific works and all the rules that accompany them, improving my writing and expanding my vocabulary and, consequently, improving my writing in the newsroom, making me more confident in the entrance exam. In addition, as a result of a good performance in the Brazil Robotics Tournament, I won a 100% scholarship at the engineering faculty of my choice, showing that the process covered so far was not in vain.”;

Judy Beatriz, 18 years old, ex-student of CE João Borges in High School, and has participated in Peritech since 2019

""Before joining the team, I had no idea that I would participate in a robotics group. The project made me think about the problems that plague our territory and possible solutions, in addition to helping with school subjects and supporting me to continue to study, because it was through the project that partnerships emerged that make computers availab."

Camille Soares, 18 years old, ex-student of CE João Borges in High School, and has participated in Peritech since 2019

In addition, Redes da Maré has been supporting the project not only with the acquisition of technological material,, but also sponsoring partnerships for lives and conversation circles between scientists in the area of computing and other sciences with young people from the territory. .

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS

In 2021, after the positive results that the Peritech Maré team presented in its two participations in renowned robotics tournaments in 2020, other actions were added to the project, such as participation in “Garotas Stem”, part of the Women in Science program, Redes da Maré's partnership with the British Council and the Museum of Tomorrow, which aims to support the role of women in leadershipl;aand opportunities for girls in civil society, STEM and the arts, promoting a more diverse and gender-representative science..

As a result of the program, there was an increase in the participation of girls in the robotics team, in addition to an increase in the interest of girls from Maré in the area of technology and computing.;o.

In addition to these circumstances, the development of these adolescents can also be highlighted in the elaboration of a scientific work, following the scientific method, always linked to a research methodology, approaching a problem and proposing an innovative solution.
