PROJECT

The project is part of Prudential's Youth for the Future Program, which has the support of the international organization BrazilFoundation and aims to provide professional training in computing for young residents of Maré, expanding the field of possibilities for these young people in the area of Information Technology. We believe that each young person graduated from the course is a multiplier of knowledge in the territory, helping friends and family and adding to the insertion of the favela in the digital world.

How it works

Currently, the project is serving more than 30 young people in Professional Training in Computer Science, Smartphone and Tablet Maintenance, Web Programming and Front-End Programming. Classes are taking place in the face-to-face teaching model. More than 65 Maréenses have already been trained. Discover the courses offered: :

Professional Training in Computer Science: the course trains young people from Maré between 17 and 24 years old to work in the world of work through scientific, cultural, social and technological knowledge, encouraging entrepreneurship and the exercise of the profession of IT technician. It is divided into modules: Digital Literacy and Atmosphere in Distance Education; Digital Culture, Society and Technology; Computational Thinking; Software; Software Process; Hardware; Database; Networks and Entrepreneurship. The entire grid caters to different knowledge levels of students. Classes take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 8 am to 12 pm in the central building. The duration of the course is 10 months.

Maintenance of Smartphones and Tablets: an introductory course for young people aged between 17 and 24 who seek to generate their own income in the short term by providing basic repairs to smartphones and tablets running Android and iOS operating systems, either working in Technical Assistance or performing services as freelancers. The syllabus is divided into Electronics; Hardware and Software. The duration of the course is 2 and a half months and, at the moment, classes take place every Friday with 2 groups, morning from 8 am to 12 pm and afternoon from 1 pm to 5 pm.

Web Programming - Front-End Development: aims to teach the use of web programming tools to create the user interface of a website, application or software. The syllabus includes the themes of internet operation, use of HTML5 and CSS3, responsive design, semantics and accessibility, use of FlexBox, terminal, introduction to GIT and GitHub. In the end, students go through a practical challenge with the assembly and development of the site layout. In-person classes take place on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 2 pm to 4 pm, and last for 3 months.

Back-End Development: The Back-End course is an excellent opportunity for those who want to specialize in software development. Unlike the Front-End, which handles the visual part of the applications, the Back-End is responsible for all the logic and data storage. During the course, students will learn the main programming languages used in Back-End development, such as Java and Python. In addition, topics such as databases, APIs and information security will be addressed. With the knowledge acquired, students will be able to create robust and scalable systems and applications, capable of meeting market demands. The market for Back-End programmers is quite promising, and the demand for qualified professionals in this area is only going to grow. Therefore, investing in a Back-End programming course is a smart choice for anyone who wants to stand out in the technology market. Classes take place on Tuesdays, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, in the central building. The duration is 4 months.

All courses take place in the Computer Laboratory, in the main building of Redes da Maré; (Rua Sargento Silva Nunes, 1012 – Nova Holanda, Maré;). Enrollment notices are published here.

TESTIMONIALS FROM STUDENTS

"I already had the opportunity to take a Spanish course at Redes a few years ago and, as soon as the Smartphone Maintenance course opened, I saw another opportunity to do something there. I love technology and I intend to be a professional in the area, both repairing smartphones as much as developing software. I would even venture to say that I can fix many devices."

Nicole Maciel, 18, student of the Smartphone and Tablet Maintenance course

I started working professionally in this area 2 weeks ago [1 month after starting the Smartphone Maintenance course], which is when I really started to publicize my work. It's been amazing! At first I was afraid to take it professionally, but now I'm seeing that it was one of my best choices. Most of the dissemination is done through social networks and WhatsApp. I also printed a sign and put it on the front door.

Raiane Gomes, 22, Nova Holanda, student of the Smartphone and Tablet Maintenance course

"I signed up for the course because it's a source of income, I want to work in the technical area and open my store someday. What I've learned so far is to change the faceplate, clean the plate, redo the charging connector, solder and re-weld, reactivate the battery, use the multimeter and I also learned to remake the components of the board. I take to my personal and professional life the appreciation of my workmanship and that everything has to be done with care."

Douglas Nunes, 20, student of the Smartphone and Tablet Maintenance course

"The course is cool, and it's also a new experience for me, as it's the first time I've taken a course. It's been a lot of fun to learn the subjects and the classroom has been a didactic place. The impact it has is that motivates me to continue in the area of technology."

Júlio César Godoy, 19, Parque União, student of the Web Programming - Front-End Development course

""I'm really enjoying the course and I know it's an area that will grow in the job market! The course offers the equipment I don't have at home, such as a computer and internet, this helps a lot for a good study and for me to grow in the area of technology."

Luís Henrique Lima, 19, Parque União, student of the Web Programming - Front-End Development course

"I started following Redes on social networks and it was there that I discovered the Maintenance course. I decided to participate because I really like the technological area. I learned how to change a screen, battery, analyze components, analyze a defect, reactivate the battery, etc. My The biggest learning was teamwork and the ethics of a good professional."

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS

"I've always dreamed of being an educator in some area of technology, I just didn't imagine it would be so soon and Redes provided me with that. Since I was little, I've been in contact with the institution, and in January 2022, I took the Smartphone and Tablet Maintenance course and I identified myself. I had contact with educator Mayara who gave me the opportunity to participate as an educator in the Front-End course. I see myself continuing the project, but with more modules and longer duration of courses, bringing more knowledge in the area of technology for the population of Maré."

Pedro Henrique Barros, 21, Baixa do Sapateiro, majoring in Information Systems at UFRJ and current educator of the Web Programming - Front-End Development course
