It is a work that also seeks to overcome negative representations of favelas and peripheries, highlighting the power and creativity of this population, by enabling the contributions of these territories to the city and impacting the quality of life of those who live in Maré..


In 2018, the axis prioritized four dimensions in its activities: women and gender, harm reduction and drug policies, initiatives aimed at youth and socio- environmental experiences. Since 2022, the strategy is anchored in two major projects, The Maré we Want and Green Maré, where there are several actions to promote socio-environmental and urban issues, respectively. In addition, the production of knowledge and diagnosis about Maré anchor another essential front represented by research and publications of Maré Census.

The Maré We Want::Defend the favela as a form of housing that is part of the city; expand residents' knowledge about urban rights; contribute so that land use respects environmental rights.

Green Maré:: Its purpose is to preserve the green areas of Maré; monitoring and encouraging the aesthetic revitalization of public parks, rivers and ditches; monitoring of basic sanitation; the right to clean water and quality air; waste management and encouraging conscientious consumption and disposal; encouraging clean energy; the right to healthy food; the confrontation of environmental racism.
