With a work focused on reinforcing and complementing regular school education, the Preparatory Course for High School is made for students of the 9th grade of Public Elementary Schools of Maré seeking vacancies in public centers of excellence of the state of Rio de Janeiro. From 2007 to 2018 there were 215 approvals in selection processes for quality recognized schools, such as FAETEC, CEFET and IFRJ, among others, expanding the professional perspectives of these young people and avoiding the historical dropout at this stage. Currently, the project has two groups of 35 young people with classes from Monday to Friday, from 3:30pm to 6pm. There are Portuguese, writing, mathematics, geography, history, biology, physics and chemistry classes, besides training in citizenship, which offers debates on political issues. Another effort is to bring students' families closer together, who at the beginning of each school year are invited to a presentation meeting and thereafter have monthly meetings with the project coordinators and social assistants, facilitating dialogue and involving everyone in the process of learning.
